Charlotte’s story is written by her mum Jaimee and is a follow up to an earlier warrior post
After a couple of years of keeping on top of Charlotte’s seizures with a mixture of many different medications and increasing doses, we got to February 2025 and we completely lost all seizure control and we were asked to consider epilepsy surgery which was very daunting.
After a year of tests Charlotte had her surgery ( hemispherotomy – a surgery where half of the brain is disconnected) on 25th February 2026.
She went down to theatre at 9am and we finally got to see her in recovery just before 5pm ( it was a very long day).
Her recovery went well with a few hiccups including a spinal fluid leak but she has now been seizure free from day 3 post surgery. She is still on a cocktail of medication which we will hopefully be able to wean once she is 12 months seizure free.
She returned to school 8 weeks after surgery and slotted back in like nothing had happened
We are immensely proud of how Charlotte has handled her surgery and are hopeful for seizure freedom as she moves forward .
