Marvellous marathon runners!

UKIST would like to say a huge thank you to Ben and Emily our London Marathon 2023 finishers! We are so grateful for your efforts and fundraising – between them Ben and Emily raised over £3000 for the charity. Ben said

“I ran the London Marathon on behalf of UKIST this year. It is a charity who have given a lot of help and support to friends of mine. The marathon experience was amazing, the crowds were uplifting and it was a memorable day (despite the rain at the start!). The best bit was seeing my family during the run. After mile 20 it got pretty challenging and I was pleased to turn the corner onto the Mall with 600m to go”

Emily said

“London Marathon 2023…. WOW, a day I will never forget. An incredible emotional day for me after the last 6 months.

I have wanted to do the London Marathon for years, but to find out I had a ballot place when Marley was in hospital being diagnosed with infantile spasms.. was just a ‘can you believe it moment’. I was finding even 2 miles hard, I was emotionally exhausted from worry.

But I was determined on Sunday and the last few months and did it!

Marley is currently weaning off vigabatrin, he has started to walk and make many sounds. I certainly used his determination to get me to the finish line on Sunday!

Seeing Marley on the course got me through the low, challenging parts.”
